Stamp of Approval

Christ, God, Jesus

“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”

Galatians 1:10 (NLT)

I remember going into my sophomore year of college in 2011. We had just gotten a new coach and we all had individual meetings with him. In my meeting he asked me, “Breeze, what do you want out of this season?” I replied, “I want people to know that I can play this game, and I want everyone to like me.” Looking back at it, the latter part of that reply is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever said. But he replied with one of the truest statements I’ve ever heard. “Not everyone is gonna like you, but they can respect you.”

As we continue to grow (in Christ) and our purposes become clearer to us, we’ll find ourselves outgrowing habits and even people. Which can lead to not being “liked” by certain crowds. But we have to remember, we’re not here to be liked, we’re here to serve our purpose, whatever that may be. Life is a series of decisions; and we can either choose to please people and receive temporary rewards, or we can seek the approval of God and receive rewards that are everlasting. Either way, not everyone is going to like you. It’s like the old saying goes; “you can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
